Manjun Chai

Manjun Chai grew up in Shanghai, China. In 2015, she received her Bachelor of Medicine in Preventative Medicine from Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou, China. In 2018, Emma graduated from the Biomedical Visualization graduate program at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In graduate school, her focus was on digital 3D modeling and 2D/3D illustration, and she was also trained in graphic design, web design, and building interactive applications in Unity.  All these skills will pave the path to her professional career in biomedical illustration.

After grad school, Emma worked as a medical VR developer in Ghost Productions from July 2018 to May 2019. She was a 3D modeler, a UI/UX designer, and a junior medical directer for Virtual Reality application. Her job also included investigating and applying novel methods to develop VR applications in Unity 3D. In this role, she developed skills in Unity, which she found as a very challenging and interesting experience.

Now Emma is working as a freelance medical illustrator/designer. Her work has been used in multiple publications, ranging from editorial to scientific journals. She will continue learning and applying new techniques and methods toward providing high-quality content for her clients.
